This course is unique in that it is taught online in a social network and also uses the traditional course management system, Blackboard. The course also utilizes the online companion website provided by our textbook publisher,  EasyWriter by Bedford. The use of these technologies allows for the course to be taught entirely online, but still allows for building of  community within the class. To enhance the online community, often this online course is taught in conjunction with a hybrid version of the course. Students from both courses work together in the same online environment.

List of Things to Get Started

• Fill out the Student Information Form.
• If you already know your Blackboard Username (MEID) and Password, log in to Bb and complete the course orientation. If you don’t know your MEID, visit https://eims.maricopa.edu/MAW/SPAT.html and choose the option: Forgot Your MEID? If it’s not your first visit, and you know your MEID but you’ve simply forgotten your password, you can look up your password if you have forgotten it, by choosing: Forgot Your Password?
• Register for the course social network: ENG101 at http://eng101.ning.com. Sign yourself up by visiting the site. Watch how to sign up here –> http://www.freshmancomp.com/screencasts/NingSU/NingSU.html
• Set up your profile by answering the profile questions and adding a photo of yourself. Don’t worry. This will be a private network. Only your classmates can see your information.
• Then introduce yourself in the discussion forum: Discussion Journal #1: Class Introductions – http://eng101.ning.com/forum/topic/show?id=1727550%3ATopic%3A69
• Get started on the course orientation and Assignment #1 in Blackboard by clicking the START HERE tab on course menu.
