This course is unique in that it is taught online in a social network and also uses the traditional course management system, Blackboard. The use of these technologies allows for the course to be taught entirely online, but still allows for building of community within the class. To enhance the online community, this online course is also taught in conjunction with two hybrid courses. Students from the three courses work together in the same online environment.

List of Things to Do to Get Started
- Fill out the Student Information Form and submit online.
- If you already know your Blackboard Username (MEID) and Password, log in to Bb and complete the course orientation. If you don’t know your MEID, visit https://eims.maricopa.edu/MAW/SPAT.html and choose the option: Forgot Your MEID? If it’s not your first visit, and you know your MEID but you’ve simply forgotten your password, you can look up your password if you have forgotten it, by choosing: Forgot Your Password?
- Complete the Course Orientation Quiz after you’ve completed the orientation in Blackboard. Open the folder below.
- Register for the course social network: FreshmanComp at http://freshmancomp.ning.com. You can sign yourself up by visiting the site, or you can wait for an invitation from Dr. Cooper after you’ve filled out the Student Information Form.
- Set up your profile by answering the profile questions and adding a photo of yourself. Don’t worry. This will be a private network. Only your classmates can see your information. Then introduce yourself in the discussion forum on the course network: Orientation: Class Introductions.
